Saudi: Burned by father, girl, 5, in Makkah traumatized


MAKKAH - Raghad, the five-year-old girl who was beaten and given second-degree burns on sensitive parts by her father is in deep shock, according to her mother. “This is not the first time my husband has beaten and physically abused Raghad. Our life is a series of drama, physical violence and abuse,” she told Arab News. Raghad is the second child of three, but was singled out for abuse by the father, the mother said. “He would ask her to leave every time she came near him. He would not allow her to take food with the rest of the family, so we served her food alone to keep her away from her father,” the mother said. The mother added that the day of the incident, Raghad had diarrhea and she had to rush to the bathroom. “The father followed her to the bathroom and started beating her and burning her body and asked me to take her away from his sight,” she recalled. “I cannot believe that this man is her father,” said the grandmother. The mother said: “He pulled out his revolver threatening to kill me. He also strangled me until I was about to die. He also pushed my mother and badmouthed her.” The mother said she took her case to the court filing for divorce but the court asked her to go back to her husband so as to keep the family intact. “Things have worsened since then,” she said.
